JOIN US!

We are a Buddhist community of friends and family practicing in the Shin Buddhist tradition. We are committed to the inclusion of everyone regardless of age, gender identity and expression, race, ethnicity, national origin, disability, sexual orientation, or immigration status. We welcome all who wish to become a part of the OCBC Sangha and follow the path of Shinran. Family services are performed in English.

Connection, Culture, & Community

  • Connect to the Three Treasures

At OCBC, one truly experiences the 3 Treasures; Buddha, Dharma, Sangha. OCBC is where the Sangha (Buddhist Community) gathers to listen to the Dharma (Buddhist Teachings). Family services are performed in English.

  • Experience OCBC's Culture

OCBC’s culture is deeply rooted in our temple founders' values and traditions, such as cooperation, teamwork, and deep respect for others. Today, our diverse Sangha embodies these values, cultivating a welcoming and thriving environment.

  • Where Community Comes Together

The temple was originally built to support the Japanese American community and remains a center of Shin Buddhist life. OCBC supports youth and adult religious, non-religious, and cultural organizations.

AWAKEN TO YOUR TRUE SELF

"Buddha" literally means “awakened one.”

Over 2,500 years ago, the Buddha saw into the cause of human suffering and found a path to a happy and meaningful life. The path of Buddhism is the path to awakening or realization. We awaken to our true self, which is one with all beings and all things.

Shin Buddhism is a non-monastic tradition founded by Shinran Shonin (1173-1263). Our main practice is listening to the teachings. It is a family-friendly path that all ages can participate in together.

Anyone and anything can be a teacher to us if we have the heart and mind to listen, to learn, and to receive.
